Today it accommodates permanent exhibitions and regularly holds conferences. It used to be the residence of the Cogolin Lords. There were 5 of them between 1626 and the Revolution without including their descendants! The first one was Henri de Cuers. He purchased part of the Seigneury of Cogolin for 3,000 ECUs, as vouched for in the sales act conserved in the department Archives of the Var. The other half belonged to Chevaliers de Malte. The new owner was thus known as Monsieur de Cogolin. It was however his son Jaques de Cuers, a naval officer, great adventurer and Fleet Commander under Louis XIV, who bought the Château. It changed ownership several times up to the 1960's. The Sellier family then
undertook its restoration and donated it to the municipality in 1982.
